Why Kirby's Epic Yarn Is the Best Game Ever Made...
I don’t mean to say that it’s the best game for anyone to play that’s ever been aimed at 5 year-olds, but that it’s the best game for 5 year-olds to play. The reason for that is very simple—YOU CAN’T FUCKING DIE. Literally. At first I thought, Jesus, there is no challenge in this game whatsoever, but then I realized how genius that was. If you’ve ever seen a kid...

Terrific Tooth Technology
I’ve been an idiot about my teeth my entire life. Brushing my teeth was always a pain and something I didn’t want to do. As a kid, I brushed once every morning on weekdays and never more than that, and surely the quality of my brushing wasn’t spectacular. Meanwhile, I drank a lot of soda and ate a lot of junk food.
By the time I was 10 years old, I believe I’d gotten 8 or...

Ultimate Weeaboo - Japanese Words Keep Sneaking...
The trouble with translating Japanese (or most languages that lack the same base, I’d imagine) is that most words don’t have a literal English meaning. The concepts are something that can be interpreted various ways in English—and that interpretation can be helped by context—but ultimately, the word only means what it means in Japanese.
As I’ve grown in understanding of...

Brilliant Dear Hunter Song Title
As singer-songwriter Casey Crescenzo put it, he’s a fan of “immature puns,” and The Dear Hunter is full of them, with the band name most notably being a play on the film The Deer Hunter.
The Dear Hunter albums tell a story of one man’s life from birth to death, and the various characters in his story are referred to with titles such as Ms. Terri (his mother) and Ms....

On The Necessity Of Self-Awareness In Facilitating...
I was gonna wait to see what grade I got on this paper before deciding if I should post it or not, but the individual grade hasn’t arrived, even though I was already given an A in my English 112 class for the semester.
The fourth and final essay was a research essay about any ‘controversial’ topic of my choosing. I’d considered doing mine about Julian Assange and the...

An Interesting Influence Possibility - I *Thought*...
When I started Tantei Opera Milky Holmes, besides instantly recognizing Shinichiro Kobayashi’s background art, I thought that the character designs looked like those of Sakai Kyuuta, designer for the anime versions of Higurashi, Ichigo Mashimaro, and Strawberry Panic (among others) and one of my favorite designers.
That turned out to be a mis-aimed guess—the designs in Milky Holmes are by...

Art & Fear
Was one of the books my mom had to get for a class. I’d thought about picking it up a couple of times, especially since it’s only a little over 100 pages. I did so tonight and found the writing style splendid, so I sat for 2 hours and plowed through the whole thing, and here’s the results:
Leaving aside pleasantries about how the book was ‘sooo right’ about this and...

I Just Realized That Panic At the Disco is an...
I’m sure someone’s figured this out long ago, but nevertheless:
One of my favorite songs by The Smiths is Panic, which is partly because of the awesome lyrics that lead out the song:
“Burn down the disco / hang the blessed DJ / because the music they constantly play says nothing to me about my life / hang the DJ hang the DJ hang the DJ”
Not hard to put the lyric and song...

One Way Zone of the Enders Remembers Love For...
Zone of the Enders is a pair of cult-hit mech action games mostly known for being written by Hideo Kojima of Metal Gear Solid fame. They had an anime adaption that no one remembers or cares about and the games were pretty short, each of which I beat in less than 4/5 hours, with most of that time going to dying a lot and cutscenes. I’d say the games aren’t really about actually playing...
